The 2018 Leadership cohort is awesome (maybe even the best class ever)! We are half way through the class and there is lots of engagement, enthusiasm and sharing happening at the program days.

Last month’s program day focused on San Jose’s history and environment building on the learning from previous class sessions. The topics of the day included land use, water management, open space/trails/parkland and community farming.

This year’s class is focusing on a class project that will support the environmental mission of the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy.

The purpose of the class project is two fold. One is to work collaboratively and hone leadership skills.

Class members are using their professional expertise and networks, developing new skills and collaborating with people they would not ordinary have a chance to work with.

The second purpose is to make a significant contribution to a nonprofit organization in the community.

The Guadalupe River project elements include:

  • Creating a pleasant route from existing Rotary Playgarden to river (enhanced with plants, colorful elements and wayfinding signs)
  • Developing better access to walk down to the riverbank and enjoy the outdoor environmental classroom (adding murals and other color to ‚Äúbrand‚Äù the river).

To learn more about the current class participants, please read their individual profiles here.

REMINDER: Applications for next year class will be available in late June. The deadline to apply is September 30.

Please contact Margaret Tamisiea for more information.

Wondering how you can help during this time? Social distancing doesn't mean social isolation. We still need to support the nonprofits in our region who are continuing to provide critical services to the people of our community day and night—ensuring our most vulnerable populations are being housed, fed and cared for. However, they could really use our help in a number of ways: donating extra supplies, offering your time as a volunteer or through any generous donations in order to sustain themselves.
