John Belisle is an associate attorney at Hoge, Fenton, Jones & Appel in San Jose.  As a member of the business litigation team, John represents clients in various types of disputes, from real estate post-transaction claims to business contract enforcement.

John‚Äôs practice focuses on all stages of litigation, from pre-lawsuit demands, through discovery, mediation and trial.  Before joining Hoge Fenton, John practiced at a small litigation firm in San Francisco, where many of his cases were disputes between residential landlords and tenants.  John attended Santa Clara University School of Law and graduated in 2014.

John serves on the board of directors of the National Liberty Ship Memorial (‚ÄúNLSM‚Äù), which is based on the S.S. Jeremiah O‚ÄôBrien, a still-operating World War II liberty ship homeported in San Francisco.  The mission of the NLSM is to operate the ship and to educate the public about the role that thousands of U.S.-built liberty ships, and their crews, played in helping the U.S. and the allies win the War.  As vice chairperson of the board of directors, John is involved in all aspects of the non-profit, from development to bylaws and governance.

Originally from the New England, John earned his bachelors of arts from Alfred University in western New York in 2005.  After college, John served for 6 years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, which included two deployments.  John served as a supply corps officer, and helped ships and units meet logistics needs. In his last job with the Navy, he worked to implement a regional transportation plan for the movement of U.S. military cargo within existing commercial channels throughout east Africa.  He lives with his wife and two sons (ages 8 months and 3 years) in Cupertino.

John is interested in joining the Leadership San Jose Cohort program so that he can continue to develop his local network and learn more about local cultural institutions.  His goal is to find opportunities to serve and give back to the local community.

Wondering how you can help during this time? Social distancing doesn't mean social isolation. We still need to support the nonprofits in our region who are continuing to provide critical services to the people of our community day and night—ensuring our most vulnerable populations are being housed, fed and cared for. However, they could really use our help in a number of ways: donating extra supplies, offering your time as a volunteer or through any generous donations in order to sustain themselves.
