Nearly 100 years since women won the right to vote in the United States, our government and society have yet to deliver on the implicit promise of women’s full equality in our democracy. The County of Santa Clara is kicking off Women 2020 to honor this historic anniversary through concrete action to close the gap between that promise and the current reality.

Join Women 2020

  • Apply by August 6: The Women‚Äôs Equality 2020 Leadership Council has 22 seats for representative of organizations that work on women‚Äôs equality, like
  • High school and college student organizations
  • Organizations providing vital services to women or youth
  • Chambers of commerce and interfaith groups
  • Organizations working on issues like voter/civic engagement, workers‚Äô rights, women‚Äôs networking, development, empowerment, or volunteering
  • And others ‚Äì check if your organization qualifies
  • Stay informed: Women 2020 has many other leadership and volunteer opportunities ‚Äì can you help, or do you just want to keep updated about what‚Äôs going on?

Here‚Äôs some background: The County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors established the Women‚Äôs Equality 2020 Leadership Council to

  • Identify strategies to advance women‚Äôs equality, making recommendations to the Board of Supervisors, and
  • Provide input and planning for activities relating to the Women‚Äôs Suffrage Anniversary.

The Leadership Council will meet approximately four times during each calendar year from 2018 through 2020 in locations throughout the County, and the application deadline is August 6.  Learn more

The Office of Women‚Äôs Policy will also convene Women 2020 Work Groups and events to engage community members and leaders in spotlighting the greatest barriers locally to women‚Äôs equality and the greatest opportunities to move the needle here in our own Valley. These will serve as spaces for deep dialogue, creative thinking to inform the Leadership Council, Office of Women‚Äôs Policy, and Board of Supervisors, and also for rolling up sleeves to coordinate the work of making Women 2020 programs and events happen. Get involved or stay informed

Moving the needle on women‚Äôs equality isn‚Äôt easy, or it would be done already. The only way that Women 2020 succeeds is if we have people at the table as diverse as our county and with a deep reach into local communities, personal experience or expertise about women‚Äôs issues, and the desire to roll up their sleeves and work for change.

Apply by August 6 for the Women’s Equality 2020 Leadership Council
