Team San Jose has been an SVO member for five years, since 2012.

Team San Jose is in the business of sharing our favorite things about San Jose with the rest of the world. We are a non-profit organization contracted by the City of San Jose to manage and operate seven public venues including the San Jose McEnery Convention Center and four historic theaters; and we serve as the official destination marketing organization for San Jose.

While it’s hard to pick only three of our favorite things in San Jose, diverse food, art and technology top our list when recommending activitiesto visitors. If you haven’t visited these places already, they will have you fall in love with San Jose all over again.

Stop One: Japanese American Museum of San Jose (JAMsj)

San Jose’s rich history and vast diversity are on display at JAMsj in Japantown San Jose. JAMsj houses a collection of exhibits chronicling more than a century of Japanese American history. Among those exhibits is an accurate recreation of the living quarters at the Tule Lake internment camp, which was curated by Jimi Yamaichi who was the Tule Lake construction foreman. Jimi is a San Jose resident and often spends time at the museum speaking with guests interested in learning more. JAMsj will be celebrating their 30th anniversary this September so be sure to stop by and experience a piece of San Jose history.

Stop Two: Lick Observatory

Lick Observatory, in the eastern hills of San Jose, serves as a landmark technology attraction and great escape from the hustle and bustle on the Valley floor. The observatory has been at the forefront of technology and astronomical research since 1888 when the 36-inch refractor telescope was used to discover the rings of Saturn. As you make the 1-hour drive to the observatory keep an eye out for several hiking trails and wildlife scattered among the hills.

Lick Observatory welcomes the public Thursday - Sunday from noon to 5 pm and offers free public tours every hour. The best time to visit is during their Summer Series program where you canenjoy a concert, learn about the observatory with science and history lectures and stare into space through their high-powered telescopes.

Stop Three: ADEGA Restaurant

For a great place to eat, we recommend dinner at ADEGA restaurant. ADEGA earned a Michelin star within a year of opening, and became the first restaurant in San Jose to be honored with this prestigious award. With an emphasis on fresh seafood and salted meat dishes, ADEGA combines home-spun goodness with a fine dining experience. Anchored in San Jose’s Little Portugal ADEGA serves as a landmark attraction in growing area of San Jose. Little Portugalisone of many growing cultural pockets in San Jose including Little Italy and Little Saigon.

These three attractions represent a myriad of activities to explore in San Jose. Whether you live here, or are just passing through, we hope you get out and see everything San Jose has to offer.
