PRESS RELEASE: The SVO Honors the Late Honorable Susan Hammer

Monday March 9, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San José, CA – The Silicon Valley Organization (The SVO) sends its condolences to the family and friends of the late and honorable Susan Hammer, former Mayor of the City of San José.

Former Mayor Hammer was a champion for the community and for San José, and The SVO honors her life’s accomplishments and dedicated service.

“Although I did not personally have the privilege to work with former Mayor Hammer, I had heard of her many great accomplishments and contributions to the City of San José long before my time as President & CEO of The SVO. Mayor Hammer led the charge in placemaking for San José in helping to get a long list of projects out of the ground and completed. Thanks to her leadership, our entire city and region benefits from her leadership on projects like The Hammer Theatre Center, The Mexican Heritage Plaza, the Martin Luther King Jr. Library, and of course, the SAP Center. All of these community amenities help the business community to thrive today, and I know I can speak confidently on behalf of the SVO’s nearly 1,200 members in thanking Mayor Hammer for her commitment to public service” said Matthew R. Mahood, President & CEO of The SVO.

“Mayor Susan Hammer was not only a hardworking, inspiring and amazing public servant; she was also one of the most incredible people I was fortunate enough to know and work with. She was always there when I needed advice, whether personal or political. I am forever grateful for her leadership, wisdom and humility. I will miss her tremendously," said Madison Nguyen, Executive Vice President of The SVO and former San José Vice Mayor.
