San Jose is a great city.

It is the HEART of Silicon Valley.

From top-notch higher education institutions like San Jose State University to top-notch employers like Cisco, IBM and eBay, vibrant suburban communities like Japantown, Willow Glen and Mayfair and open spaces like New Almaden, Sierra Vista and Penetencia ... San Jose offers so much.

And now, there's opportunity to offer so much more with a project that can change this beautiful city's trajectory forever.

Google has recognized this city's potential and is offering a chance to continue to move it forward. The project, dubbed "Google Village" will transform the Diridon Station Area from a quiet stop outside of game night into 6 million square feet of office and Research and Development space.

Included in the plans, per this press release from the City of San Jose, are

  • World-class architecture
  • Publicly accessible outdoor plazas and paseos
  • Street-level retail shops
  • Public greenbelt and parks

Mayor Sam Liccardo sent this message to San Jose residents this week outlining what this project could mean to San Jose.

His six takeaways:

  1. It isn't a sure thing.
  2. There's no subsidy or "special deal"
  3. Housing affordability
  4. Who gets displaced
  5. How about traffic
  6. Yes, it's a big deal

We want to reiterate that this isn't just about Google. It's about us.

It's about what Google's investment can mean to the citizens of San Jose. It's about who follows Google's example. It's about what we want our city to be 10, 20, 30 years from now. It's about our future.

COVID-19 Nonprofit Resources
Wondering how you can help during this time? Social distancing doesn't mean social isolation. We still need to support the nonprofits in our region who are continuing to provide critical services to the people of our community day and night—ensuring our most vulnerable populations are being housed, fed and cared for. However, they could really use our help in a number of ways: donating extra supplies, offering your time as a volunteer or through any generous donations in order to sustain themselves.
