San Jose was named 2018’s 3rd Happiest City in America in a recent study from the leading personal finance outlet

The two smaller Bay Area cities, San Francisco and Oakland, came in 13th and 18th.

In order to determine where people in America are most content with their lives, WalletHub compared more than 180 of the largest U.S. cities across 28 key indicators of happiness. The data set ranges from depression rate to income-growth rate to average leisure time spent per day.

Happiness in San Jose (1=Happiest, 91=Avg.)

  • 7th‚Äì Depression Rate
  • 59th‚Äì Adequate-Sleep Rate
  • 10th‚Äì Suicide Rate
  • 20th‚Äì Sports-Participation Rate
  • 1st‚Äì Unemployment Rate
  • 15th‚Äì Separation & Divorce Rate
  • 27th‚Äì Income Growth Rate

WalletHub's Methodology:

"In order to determine the happiest cities in America, WalletHub compared 182 of the largest cities— including the 150 most populated U.S. cities, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state — across three key dimensions: 1) Emotional & Physical Well-Being, 2) Income & Employment and 3) Community & Environment."
