The San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce is announcing its new name, organizational structure and direction at its Jan. 19 access silicon valley monthly member breakfast.

‚ÄúOver the course of our 131-year history, our organization has evolved to better serve the needs of the business community,‚Äù said Matt Mahood, President & CEO of The silicon valley organization, formerly the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce. ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs the ability to plan and evolve to the ever-changing Silicon Valley business ecosystem that has allowed us to remain a relevant and vital part of our regional economy for more than a century. And we‚Äôre just getting started.‚Äù

In the last six years since Mahood first took the reigns, the organization has been pursuing a slow but deliberate pivot and shift to prioritize economic development as a key driver for the organization.

‚ÄúNow, with a refreshed look and name, we can complete this organizational transformation to not only serve our primary constituents as the voice of business but also be looked upon by the broader community as the regional leader, collaborator and problem solver that we are,‚Äù Mahood said.

The new name emphasizes the organization‚Äôs greater role within Silicon Valley and will clarify and elevate the work it does through its four lines of business‚Äîcommerce san josesilicon valley IDEAfoundation silicon valley; and PAC silicon valley.

For those worried about what this may mean for San Jose, however, the work within the Heart of Silicon Valley will remain laser-focused, specifically through commerce san jose and foundation silicon valley‚Äôs strive san jose and leadership san jose, but also through PAC silicon valley and silicon valley IDEA.

‚ÄúThe work that the organization has been known for isn‚Äôt changing,‚Äù said Dan Bozzuto, Board Chair of The silicon valley organization. ‚ÄúIn fact, this reorganization allows for greater exposure and growth for the programs and initiatives that have been gaining significant traction in the last few years. This new name better reflects the work being done across so many areas of our community.‚Äù

The broader, more regional name also focuses on the organization‚Äôs ability to act as both a convener and catalyst for collective impact for the greater Silicon Valley community on issues that affect business velocity and quality of life.

Wondering how you can help during this time? Social distancing doesn't mean social isolation. We still need to support the nonprofits in our region who are continuing to provide critical services to the people of our community day and night—ensuring our most vulnerable populations are being housed, fed and cared for. However, they could really use our help in a number of ways: donating extra supplies, offering your time as a volunteer or through any generous donations in order to sustain themselves.
