East Side Union High School District’s Silver Creek High School will be hosting the District’s annual Magnet Night on Thursday, Jan. 28, from 6– 8p.m. Incoming 9th grade students throughout the District will have the opportunity to select a career pathway they wish to attend.
ESUHSD has been building upon an already strong foundation of magnet programs for its 10 participating schools:
- Andrew Hill
- James Lick
- Mount Pleasant
- Oak Grove
- Piedmont Hills
- Santa Teresa
- Silver Creek
- W.C. Overfelt
- Yerba Buena
Each school boasts robust advanced placement courses and special academic programs, including: space engineering, computer aided drafting, animation, business, and electronics.
“This is an important time in a student’s life when they make decisions about their future education and career,” said Tim Nguyen, Director of Career Services at the District, who is spearheading the effort. “Our magnet programs provide a personalized education to prepare students with the academic, critical thinking and leadership skills they need to succeed in Silicon Valley and beyond.
“We are prepared to meet high standards of academic expectations at all of our school campuses and eager to provide life-changing educational opportunities,” Nguyen said.
ESUHSD has also established a partnership with the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce, through its Strive San Jose initiative, to enhance the program with internships, mentorships and job shadowing opportunities.
“ESUHSD provides the type of educational rigor and opportunities that SJSV Chamber wants to have as partners,” said Matt Mahood, SJSV Chamber President & CEO. “We were impressed by the abundance of academic programs, extensive athletic offerings and extracurricular activities available to students and feel that the partnership will be both beneficial to our business members as well as to the students.”
