Food Truck Strike Team Sponsored by Alliance Credit Union Provides Free Lunch to Residents and First Responders Impacted by No. California Fires

In coordination with the Santa Rosa Local Assistance Center (LAC) and the American Red Cross, a Food Truck Strike Team sponsored by Alliance Credit Union was on site at the Sonoma County LAC on Saturday November 4th.

The LAC, located at the Press Democrat Building, 427 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa provided FEMA services to those affected by the fire. The Five food trucks supplied a variety of delicious free lunch offerings.

The participating food trucks included:

·       El Norteno, offering freshly made Mexican foods such as tacos, burritos, quesadillas and Nachos.

·      The Chairman, offering original street food of Asia―steamed and baked buns that use the freshest ingredients that are savory and addictive. The Chairman is also providing an extra donation to the effort.

·      Sam's Chowder, offering Lobster Rolls, Sam's famous New England clam chowder, Fried Calamari, Fish and Chips, and more

·       Curry Up Now, offering a blend of traditional Indian flavors and street foods presented in a friendly, recognizable way

·       El Sur Empanadas, using old-fashioned techniques, timeless recipes and the finest northern California purveyors, these empanadas are delicious.

The idea of a Food Truck Strike Team originated with Simon Williams from the Office of Emergency Services in Palo Alto. Within a few days of the Northern California Fire, Williams secured funding and the food trucks, and connected with FEMA and the Red Cross to coordinate a central location for the relief effort.

“By combining forces we can make a stronger impact and help more people at one time,” said Williams. “Individually these food trucks felt they could do little to help, as the travel time and gas costs alone are extremely costly. However, with the support of Alliance Credit Union and the Strike Team plan, we are able to pull together to help the community at large.”

“When we heard of the devastation and destruction caused by the Fires, we wanted to be a part of the relief efforts for all those affected,” said Brian Dorcy, President/CEO of Alliance Credit Union. “The unique idea of a dedicated team of food trucks providing some respite follows the credit union philosophy of people helping people. All of us at Alliance Credit Union are here for our community at large during the good and bad times."

In addition to sponsoring the Food Truck Strike Team, Alliance Credit Union also collected warm blankets that were distributed at the lunch.

The Northern California Fires are the largest in California state history, covering more than 182,000 acres and destroying nearly 8,400 structures, including more than 3,500 homes.
