City of San Jose Downtown Intensification Program (Signage)

Updated May 25

In April of 2016, SVO staff and the SJDA met with City of San José staff to discuss implementation of a downtown intensification program similar to what we saw in Denver during the 2015 Study Mission.

Those initial conversations led the Mayor to create a budget line item for fiscal year 2016-17 to hire both a Planning staff member and the consultant who oversaw the implementation of the Denver Program. Both the new staff member and consultant have been hired and are working with SVO staff and other stakeholders on bringing recommendations to the Council.

Phase 1 of the program (Super-graphics) was approved by the City Council in December of 2016. We will likely see the draft pilot program in spring 2017.

Phase 2 will likely need about 10-12 months before a staff recommendation will surface.

POSITION: SUPPORT

STATUS: Passed Council May 16 as a pilot. Staff will report back in fall of 2017
