San Jose is grabbing headlines once more with today's big announcement from SVO member Adobe.
The tech company, the first to invest in San Jose's downtown, announced today that it will be expanding its global headquarters in the Heart of Silicon Valley with the construction of a fourth tower in downtown San Jose.
“The investment into San Jose keeps on coming, this time from one of our cornerstone tech businesses – Adobe,” said The SVO President & CEO Matt Mahood. “We applaud their decision to expand their headquarters in their hometown, not only growing their footprint within the city’s core but also generating a positive ripple effect for the local economy along the way.”
According to the official press release from the City of San Jose, Adobe pioneered the model of a headquarters campus in a high-rise configuration and urban setting back in 1996 when it opened the doors to its campus. The first iteration was a single high-rise tower that was all of 300,000 square feet. The two additional towers were completed later, in 1998 and 2003 respectively and the total area grew to 900,000 square feet.
“Our people are our most valuable assets,” said Donna Morris, executive vice president of Customer & Employee Experience at Adobe in the release. “Expanding our facilities will allow us to hire additional talent to research and build products, serve our customers and continue to grow across virtually every part of our business. We’re moving forward on the planning and building process as quickly as we can.”
The announcement, which will translate into an addition of nearly 3,000 jobs in the city's core - not including the jobs the construction itself will generate - comes on the heels of another Silicon Valley tech giant and SVO member's expansion plans into the downtown.
Google is also looking to build out a campus near the Diridon Station Area of San Jose and potentially bring some 20,000 jobs to the 10th largest city in the country.
