The silicon valley organization encourages the San Jose City Council to approve agenda item 2.7 on the consent calendar, which would amend the Master Consultant Agreement with Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) for an amount not to exceed $200,000.
The SVO has long supported a comprehensive approach to advancing a strong, regional economy that includes anticipating waves of innovation, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), as a key driver of opportunity in the Silicon Valley. Thus, we applaud the City of San Jose’s vision for a digitally connected municipality that can deliver Smart City Services to our community.
The first step to guide the transformation of the City’s IoT platform is to develop a comprehensive citywide strategy in partnership with PwC. The successful execution of this strategy would lead to future Smart City services that would advance innovations in city lighting, parking management, waste water management, and much more.
In addition, this appropriation is fully funded by a Knight Foundation grant to support the development of an IoT infrastructure within the City. We see this as an incredible opportunity to expand Smart City services, through a fiscally responsible manner that does not impact existing services.
For these reasons, we would respectfully ask that you approve agenda item 2.7 through the consent calendar to allow the City Manager to negotiate and execute the approved Master Consultant Agreement with PwC.
