On behalf of The Silicon Valley Organization (The SVO), we are writing to support the important work of the Ohlone College Tri-Cities Career Center. Its successful operation and resources, currently provided under the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA), are essential for connecting youth and adult job seekers to employment opportunities. By way of background, we are the Silicon Valley’s premier business advocacy organization representing 1,400+ companies that employ nearly 300,000 workers and we represent our membership as the region’s largest Chamber of Commerce.
The SVO continues to support workforce development initiatives, particularly partnerships between education institutions and the business community. We collaborate with the Ohlone College Tri-Cities Career Center to provide talent and recruitment services to our 1,400+ business members.
Our team supports businesses by connecting them to institutions like Ohlone College for recruitment of entry-level, middle skilled, and high skilled occupations. In 2017 alone, we partnered with multiple public agencies in order to provide 200+ paid internship opportunities for high school youth throughout Silicon Valley. As we seek to expand our workforce development initiatives, we are thrilled at the prospect of partnering with Ohlone College to provide high quality job opportunities for our local youth and young adults.
On behalf of The SVO, we pledge our full support to the Tri-Cities Career Center’s receipt of its grant proposal. We look forward to future collaborations with Ohlone College and I hope you will approve their grant request to continue our regional workforce development partnerships.
