The SVO Voices Support for AB 1743: Career Technical Education Incentive Grant

#AdvocacyMatters.png

On behalf of The Silicon Valley Organization (The SVO), we are writing to support AB 1743 which would provide ongoing funding for the Career Technical Education Incentive Grant (CTEIG). By way of background, we are the Silicon Valley’s premier business advocacy organization representing 1,400+ companies that employ nearly 300,000 workers and we represent our membership as the region’s largest Chamber of Commerce.

The SVO has consistently supported Career Technical Education (CTE) programs in order to create a local pipeline of talent to grow businesses that will continue fueling Silicon Valley’s innovation economy. Our region requires a highly skilled workforce that will allow companies to compete globally and to power California’s economic engine as we are on track to become the 5th largest economy in the world. AB 1743 would support our success by supporting multi-year course sequences that integrate a rigorous academic foundation alongside real world, occupational knowledge that provides a direct career pathway to high skilled jobs of the future.

Furthermore, we have applied the policy goals of AB 1743 into practice and have put our considerable resources behind supporting local CTE students. By the end of 2018, The SVO Foundation, our 501(c)(3) non-profit affiliate, will place nearly 500 high school CTE students in San Jose into high quality, private sector paid internships. This is just one example of the extraordinary public-private partnerships that are happening throughout the state, as a direct outcome of funding CTEIG. AB 1743 will continue supporting these business-school partnerships and help to grow talent pipelines for businesses to succeed in California.

We urge the Assembly Education Committee to approve passage of AB 1743 and to continue supporting CTE programs to advance business success in both Silicon Valley and throughout the state of California.
