Kim Scott Named to Leadership Team as VP, Business Development and Marketing
San Jose, Calif., June 7, 2018 – Blach Construction (Blach), a full-service commercial builder serving the Greater Bay Area and Monterey for nearly five decades, is pleased to announce six promotions. Previously director of education services, Kim Scott has been named vice president of business development and marketing; Tony Mirenda is transitioning from project executive into a broader business development executive role; James Woodbury has been promoted to project executive from senior project manager; Kevin Brady has been elevated to preconstruction director from senior estimator; Alan Jacobs has assumed the role of principal estimator from senior estimator; and Josh Hunter has become director of information systems after serving as senior manager of technology and special projects.

Scott began her career at Blach in 2004 managing several complex projects for its largest target market – the K-12 education sector – before seamlessly transitioning into a business development role where she continued to expand Blach’s education-focused efforts. Her thorough and strategic understanding of construction and delivery methods, combined with her dedication to client service, positioned her for her new role as vice president. She now oversees all markets and joins the firm’s executive leadership team. Scott is involved with several industry and continuing education organizations, including the Coalition for Adequate School Housing (CASH), California Association of School Business Officials (CASBO), the Community College League of California (CCLC) and the Community College Facility Coalition (CCFC). In 2017, she was a recipient of the prestigious TWIN Award from the YWCA in recognition of her leadership at Blach and impact on the community.
As development executive, Mirenda is the newest member of the business development team. Formerly a project executive, he has been an effective client relationship builder and regional networker. Drawing on his 36-year career in San Jose, Mirenda has helped secure and successfully build a number of projects across the spectrum of public and private industries, including higher education, civic, mixed use and corporate offices. Mirenda continuously contributes to Blach’s growth through his extensive network in the San Jose community. He sits on – and in some cases chairs – several industry and non-profit boards, including the J.W. House, S4CA (Santa Clara County Construction Careers Association), the St. Francis High School Endowment Board, The Silicon Valley Organization Board and Executive Committee and its Development Review and Housing Policy Committee, the East Side Union High School District Career Pathways Advisory Board, St. Joseph Parish in Fremont “To Build Church Committee,” and The Sovereign Order of Malta’s Western Association “Growing The Faith” and Hospitaller Committees for the San Jose location.
Since joining Blach in 2012, Woodbury has applied his ability to manage complex projects and cross-functional teams of all sizes. With a large resume of experience in the technology industry, Woodbury has an extensive understanding of design-build construction, green building and sustainability requirements. His well-earned trust among clients and project partners have been integral in moving the upcoming Gateway at Millbrae project forward in partnership with Cahill Construction that, valued at $300 million, will be the largest and most complex in Blach’s history. Woodbury is LEED-certified and has previously been an active member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
Throughout his four decades of experience in the construction industry, Brady has managed preconstruction and estimating for some of the largest projects in the Bay Area. After joining Blach in 2015, he has been hugely successful in delivering preliminary construction projects and detailed construction estimates, and he is highly adept at managing design-build teams through the preconstruction process, specifically with value engineering and subcontractor bidding. He is a member of the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) and the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), and he is a LEED Accredited Professional.
Jacobs possesses more than 42 years of experience in preconstruction and estimating in the construction industry, and he has been an integral member of Blach’s preconstruction team since 2012. Jacobs’ sharpened cost estimating skills and ability to identify cost-saving alternatives have facilitated several new project wins for the company, including the new Student Health and Counseling Center at San Jose State University valued at $25 million. As a Certified Professional Estimator and a training advocate, Jacobs spearheaded a program to train Blach’s junior employees on estimating and preconstruction, and he currently serves as president of ASPE Chapter 55 – Silicon Valley.
A Blach team member since 2001, Hunter has been an integral member of many internal and project teams, beginning on the project management side. In this role, he worked on several large-scale projects, developing multi-year construction programs. Shifting his focus to information systems, Hunter has successfully overseen the implementation of invaluable new technology for the company, including CMiC and the new Blach intranet. Hunter is actively involved in the industry and community as a member of the USGBC, CASH, CASBO and as an associate board member for City Year, San Jose/Silicon Valley.
